DomainKeys Identified Mail
DomainKeys Identified Mail (DKIM) - read more about it, what it does, the way it works and how to activate it for your mailboxes.
DomainKeys Identified Mail (DKIM) is an email authentication system used to verify that an e-mail message has been sent by an authorized mail server or individual. A digital signature is added to the email message’s header using a private encryption key. When the message is received, a public key that’s available in the global DNS database is used to validate who exactly sent it and whether the content has been edited in any way. The primary function of DomainKeys Identified Mail is to avert the widespread spam and scam emails, as it makes it impossible to fake an email address. If an email message is sent from an address claiming to belong to your bank, for instance, but the signature doesn’t match, you will either not get the message at all, or you will get it with an alert that most likely it is not a legitimate one. It depends on email providers what exactly will happen with an email message which fails the signature examination. DomainKeys Identified Mail will also offer you an extra protection layer when you communicate with your business partners, for example, since they can see that all the e-mails that you send are authentic and have not been tampered with in the meantime.

DomainKeys Identified Mail in Website Hosting
In case you host a domain name in a
website hosting account from us, all the mandatory records for using the DomainKeys Identified Mail functionality will be added by default. This will happen as soon as you add the domain name in the Control Panel’s Hosted Domains section, as long as it also uses our NS resource records. A private cryptographic key will be created on our mail servers, while a public key will be sent to the global DNS system automatically using the TXT resource record. In this way, you won’t have to do anything manually and you’ll be able to make use of all the benefits of this validation system – your messages will reach any destination without being denied and no one will be able to send email messages forging your email addresses. The latter is pretty important in case the essence of your online presence involves sending periodic offers or newsletters via email to potential and existing customers.

DomainKeys Identified Mail in Semi-dedicated Servers
The DomainKeys Identified Mail functionality is included by default with any domain name that’s added to a
semi-dedicated server account with us. It should also use our name servers, so that its DNS records are managed by our system. The latter makes it possible for a special TXT resource record to be set up, which is in fact the public cryptographic key that confirms if a particular email is authentic or not. This record is created once a brand-new domain is registered in a semi-dedicated hosting account via the Hepsia Control Panel and at the same time, a private key is created on our mail servers. If you use our web and email hosting services, your emails will always reach their target viewers and you will not need to worry about unsolicited persons forging your addresses for scamming or spamming purposes, which is something rather important in case you use emails to reach your business allies.
